Spiritual Awakening Stages: The Art of Surrender

Updated: Jan 30

There are times in life, just like the seasons, where there is a plethora of things that need to fall away or change. Some seasons seem easier than others, some seem more challenging than others. It is this constant state of flow and duality, in which we can truly experience the fullness of life. But even knowing this, does not make the challenging times any easier. Let's uncover the art of surrender as this is an essential stage of spiritual awakening.

It is through these times though that we truly discover and uncover who we really are. We learn about how much we can hold. We learn about our capacity to experience the fullness of each experience.

What is not always easy to remember or do for that matter, is to let go, release, and forgive. To release what is no longer positively serving us even after a season has ended. We can be in the brightest summer day, but still be holding onto the pain of the ice cold winter storm.

If only we could learn how to surrender to the ebbs and flows of life better. So that we do not have to carry these burdens that are not meant for us to carry throughout seasons of our life. They are only meant to be experienced in time and space. It does not mean to forget what happened, or to pretend that the pain isn’t there. It means stepping into life with a more open heart, knowing that these things happened for us in one way or another to grow.

The pain you may have experienced was very real, but there is no reason to carry that with you throughout your whole life. This is how the pain turns into physical manifestations within the body or how we create situations in our mind affecting future experiences that would never have been related if we had just learned to let go.

But how do you surrender? It definitely is an art form that I’m not sure can be mastered. Personally, I feel like it starts with becoming aware. From that place of awareness you can start to attract the tools to help you heal, which in my experience takes time. As much as I have wanted to hit a giant red button for me to be instantly healed, it doesn’t work that way. And ironically, I have found some of the people or experiences that caused me pain have been the very ones that have set me on the path as a catalyst for my biggest changes, healing, and transformations. I guess the Universe has a sense of humor.

Anyways, I think one of the biggest things you can do to start to heal is to have the wilinesses to forgive, to surrender the pain, and to let go of the experience all together. Just because something happened to you doesn't mean that it has to happen again, unless you are unconsciously attracting similar experiences because you haven't let go of the pain.

I get it, there are plenty of incredibly painful events that happened to me in my life, some of which I am not sure I am ready to publicly share. But even through the pain I knew that I had to forgive to release the chains holding me in a never ending loop of sadness, repressed anger, and despair. You are not what has happened to you, but you are what you make of it.

You can choose the path of healing, forgiveness, and surrender just as you can choose the path of continual suffering, pain, and misery. The choice is yours.

If you are looking for tools to help you start on the path of healing, here’s some that have helped me along my journey. Remember not all tools will always work. But creating a list of tools that you can turn to and making sure to feel through the pain helps you to release it.

Andrea Demi’s Healing Toolbox:

  • Music: From comforting music to help me write to music that makes you want to get up and dance have both been incredibly healing.

  • Oracle Readings/Cards: I personally pull cards for myself to gain clarity and different perspectives. It is always important when going this route that you are calling in your Elevated Angels of the purest and highest unconditional Source Love & Source Light to share the messages you need to hear for your greatest and highest good of all, greatest and highest outcome of all. Yes it is a mouthful, but it helps to create a foundation for you to receive messages that will support you.

  • Meditation: I have gone through a variety of meditations throughout my journey from guided, to music, to silence. You should create a practice at least once daily, ideally when you wake up and or fall asleep. Even if you are starting out with 1 minute guided meditations like HeadSpace. Starting somewhere helps to create a new sense of groundedness in your being. And know that meditation does not have a goal, it is not about quitting the mind, simply being the observer, the awareness behind everything.

  • Cacao: This is one that I go to even when I’m feeling well. Cacao is basically pure chocolate. I personally love Ora Cacao and have this every day. Cacao no only has amazing health benefits but it also is a heart opener, which is helpful when healing matters of the heart. You can create a simple intention or blessing before you have your cacao, and add music to create a mini ceremony to anchor in what you are wanting to heal.

  • Sunshine & Walking in Nature: No matter the time of year, yes even the incredibly cold days, this is always refreshing. My dog, Tuffy, has held me accountable each morning even on days where I didn’t want to go outside at all. Every time I would return from our walks that I didn’t feel like going on, I would find that I would be even just the slightest better. And that’s because we are nature, so of course it is healing. Which leads me to my next point on trees.

  • Trees: Think about it, trees are living. They even have a whole ecosystem underground to help support one another. It is also known that Shamans typically have a tree which they will go to at the end of their day to help them with grounding and transmuting any energies they may have taken on from their healing sessions. If you don’t believe me, try placing your hand on a tree for at least 3-5 minutes daily. After about a week or two, maybe sooner, you should start to feel their energy.

There are a lot more tools I have worked with, this is just a simple snapshot to support you or share with someone who may need extra support.
